About us

Our Region represents the counties of Kent, Surrey and Sussex (East & West)

There are 102 clubs affiliated to the South East Region. Club membership varies from 15 to 1800+. Affiliation fees are at present based on club size, but in the future will be related to the number of members in each club, excluding pre-school members. Personal membership is not available.

Who are we?
South East Gymnastics was established as a Region of British Gymnastics in 1980, originally comprising the counties of Surrey, East & West Sussex and Kent. It has grown to a position of pre-eminence becoming the first region to break the 20,000 members/100 plus clubs in the UK.

The South East prides itself on having many ‘firsts' in its record book, including the first region to be given the status of Sports Council Centres of Excellence in the 1980s in a range of disciplines:
Womens Artistic Leatherhead & Dorking
Mens Artistic Woking
Acrobatics Spelthorne

This was followed in 2001 with two of its centres being designated British Gymnastics High Performance Centres, these being in Gillingham, for trampolining, and Leatherhead for Women's Artistic.

The Region is proud of its record of having the greatest number of dedicated gymnastics centres established by clubs. In addition to those stated above we have to add Horsham, Brighton, Crawley (Hawth), Hastings (Summerfields), Uckfield, Deal, Tolworth, Meapa and Pegasus (Maidstone), with more being planned.

The Region has a well structured organisation from the Board through to its technical committees, with regional training squads providing an opportunity for young gymnasts to experience development en route to national squad selection.

The performance of coaches and their gymnasts has resulted in selections to represent Great Britain at the highest international levels from the Olympic Games, through World and European Championships to Commonwealth Games. In many instances the gymnasts achieved medal positions, including gold.

The Region holds gymnastics championships in its own right as well as hosting British championships and International Events.

South East Gymnastics is proud of its record, proud of its clubs, its gymnasts, its coaches and judges. It maintains a standard for others to follow.

Be part of the success story at South East Gymnastics.
