Remuneration for the role:  out of pocket expenses

Are you a current or retired performance athlete who would like to contribute, shape and influence across all board activity? Can you be the voice of the athlete during board discussions and decision making so young people's views are heard and valued, and they can influence decision making and drive change?

In 2023, we developed a new vision and strategy for the sport, Leap Without Limits, with a clear focus on the environment and culture we all want for gymnastics in Scotland and the UK.

Scottish Gymnastics is seeking to appoint a technical director with specific experience as a performance athlete who has competed at European, Commonwealth Games or World level.  As well as contributing to the overall work of the board through the general duties of a director, this role will be key in having the athlete voice heard as part of all board activity and engage with gymnasts through the youth forum, performance programmes and assist with integrating the rights and voice of the gymnasts into our governance structure.

We are keen to hear from you if you have a high-level understanding and interest in the work of Scottish Gymnastics. You would provide drive and energy, and work alongside board members, the chief executive officer, and our staff to support the delivery of the strategic plan and would be committed and passionate about gymnastics and putting the gymnast at the heart of all that we do.

The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate a proven ability to work with others and be confident to contribute to board discussions and enthusiastic debate, contribute to the board agenda and sit on sub-committees of the board as appropriate. You can find out more about the role by viewing the director brochure below.

The role requires a commitment of on average six to eight days per year for general duties including board meetings and preparation time. Meetings are held every three months normally from September to June, including two face to face meetings held annually. This role is not remunerated, however, out of pocket expenses will be paid.

If you would like an informal chat about the role, please contact CEO Doc McKelvey at doc.mckelvey@scottishgymnastics.org in the first instance to arrange a suitable time to discuss the role further.

If you think you are right for Scottish Gymnastics and this role excites you, please send us a letter of application highlighting your motivation for the post and relevant experience, with your CV to us at hr@scottishgymnastics.org to arrive no later than Friday 26 July 2024.

The technical director role is elected to the board by a vote at the AGM on 23 February 2025. Information on all nominated candidates will be sent to Scottish Gymnastics voting members in advance of the AGM.

We value different perspectives and backgrounds knowing that diversity drives innovation and performance. Scottish Gymnastics serves a diverse community, and we are committed to growing and maintaining a culture of inclusion across our own organisation. We aim to ensure that no applicant receives less favourable treatment on the grounds of discrimination. All appointments are made purely based on merit and ability.
